Managing Editor:
Mark Laliberte is a writer, visual artist, designer, curator and soundmaker. He has had pageworks, poems and other print experiments appear in publications big and small, including Descant, Lantern, Misunderstandings, Other Cl/utter, Pilot, prairie fire, Prefix Photo, Rampike, subTerrian and Vallum. In early 2010, BRICKBRICKBRICK, a full-length book of visual poems, was released with BookThug. Later in the year, GREY SUPREME 1, a print-based "project platform" initiated by the artist as a way to collect his short-form experiments with image, text and hybrid literary forms, debuted with Koyama Press. Laliberte is currently working on both GREY SUPREME 2 and his next full-sized visual poetry manuscript, tentatively titled Cloud & Bubble.

Assistant Managing Editor:
Ashley Miller
is doing her PhD in Zoology at the University of Guelph. While her thesis has little to do with creative writing, she has had an interest in the arts from an early age; mostly writing, fine art and music. In her spare time she takes time to flex her artistic muscles through classes and writers circles. She has been a member of Carousel, serving on the Poetry Committee, since 2008.

  Fiction Editor:
Maggie Twidale is currently in her third year at the University of Guelph studying Biology and Political Science. The interdisciplinary nature of her program allows her to explore fundamental questions about the world from varying perspectives that build upon and compliment each other. Having been the President of her high school’s Arts and Culture Council, Maggie loves to explore art — whether it be writing, performance, or music — from diverse origins and looks forward to having the opportunity to read this year’s fiction submissions.

  Poetry Editor:
Lisa Kellenberger
has been writing and editing poetry for magazines for the past decade, joining the Carousel team in 2008 after her move to Guelph. She spent a semester completing a graduate level seminar in poetry at the respected Iowa Writers’ Workshop before jumping into doctoral research in Biomedical Science at the University of Guelph. Lisa is interested in exploring the intersection of art and science through poetry and is always fascinated by the breadth of work that lands at the Carousel office.

Special Project Development:
Jennifer de Visser studies English Literature at the University of Guelph with a focus on late 19th and 20th century American literature. She has written poetry for over a decade and been involved in a number of poetry workshops, readings, and performances over the years. She is currently indulging her loves of both poetry and painting by experimenting with mixed media pieces.

...should you have interest in participating on either of these selection committees, just show up at the office at the appropriate time! These meetings are organized and facilitated by appointed Editors; they work efficiently with our volunteers to choose what poems or stories will be published. Carousel receives a large number of submissions from a national / international cross-section of writers, so there is quite a bit to look through, and we can always use new people to voice their opinions. Due to the time committment of our weekly (sometimes reduced to bi-weekly) meetings, it's suggested that you join either one committee or the other, not both.
